Today is the first day of the rest of your month

My parental leave (a.k.a. infant care leave, paternity leave) starts today.  Twelve weeks out of the office.  Even though it’s my third time, I’m still getting used to the idea.  Stopping by the office this morning to get some stuff didn’t help.  It always takes a few days to get acclimated.  And of course it will be over before I know it.

I feel pretty fortunate that my employer is so generous with the leave policy, at least by U.S. standards.  Only four of the weeks are paid, but it’s still better than most folks get.  (New mothers get an additional eight weeks of paid “maternity disability” leave.)

Of course, this does turn me into a nearly equal partner around the house, esp. late at night, since I can’t use the “I have to get my rest for work” excuse any more.
